Immigration Overview

Cyprus is a Mediterranean business hub—English is widely used, its location connects Europe, Africa, and the Middle East, and qualifying non-domiciled tax residents can receive dividends and passive interest without Special Defence Contribution for 17 years. Corporate tax rose from 12.5% to 15% on 1 January 2026.

The Digital Nomad Visa (launched 2022) lets remote workers base in Cyprus, and the Category 6(2) investor route delivers permanent residence in months. Cyprus is in the EU but not yet in Schengen, so travel-day rules still matter.

Future Outlook

Cyprus: The Next Decade

Tech now outweighs tourism in the island's economy, the non-dom regime survived the 2026 tax reform, and the reservoirs just hit record lows. Our ten-year outlook prices the 60-day proposition honestly: the housing squeeze, the summer power cuts, the divided island, and who this actually suits.

Which Cyprus route is yours?

Cyprus is an English-friendly EU base with a genuine non-dom tax advantage — but the residency route you pick decides whether you wait months or years for a decision.

Where does your income come from?

Is the non-dom tax benefit your main reason?

  • Yes — I want the non-dom SDC exemption for qualifying dividends and passive interest Establish tax residency (60-day rule) and non-dom status; the residency permit is separate.
  • I mostly care about a fast, secure EU PR Category 6(2) gives PR in months and pairs cleanly with non-dom status. Investor PR — Category 6(2) guide →
TaxNon-dom residents can receive qualifying dividends and passive interest without SDC for 17 years, although income tax and GESY rules still need separate review. The 60-day tax-residence route also requires the day-count tests, a permanent Cyprus home, and continuing Cyprus business, employment, or office. Corporate tax rose to 15% on 1 Jan 2026; qualifying crypto disposal gains are taxed at 8% flat (Article 20E).
Permanent residenceCategory 6(2) investor PR has an official processing target of approximately 2 months after a complete application. Category F self-sufficiency PR is cheap to qualify for but is running a 5–7 year backlog as of 2026 (Auditor-General report, February 2026).
CitizenshipStandard naturalization requires 12 months of continuous residence immediately before applying plus 7 cumulative years in the preceding 10, with B1 Greek. Faster rules exist for specified highly skilled employees. Dual citizenship is allowed; the citizenship-by-investment programme closed in November 2020.

Facts verified July 2026 against Expatriator research.
